28th July Animatic
Presentation
Plot Holes
After the
presentation of the current animatic, a plot hole was pointed out. Zion (male
antagonist) had the opportunity to kill Farahilde (female protagonist) when she
was climbing up into a tunnel, but didn’t. Instead he waited until they reached
the exit to murder her. The reason for this initial action was because there
had to be a moment where the gun switched from Farahilde to Zion. Thus the
scene of Farahilde passing the gun to Zion so she could climb up the tunnel.
And this created the plot hole. A simple solution mentioned was that the order
of the two characters climbing up the tunnel could change. Farahilde could
strap the gun onto her back and get boosted up by Zion. But when she reached
down to pull him up, her arm was not long enough. Therefore she used the gun as
an extension to help him up. The gun ended up in Zion’s hands, but he also
missed the chance to kill Farahilde.
Another
problem that came up was the ending. In the ending, Farahilde was able to get
up after being shot in the back and take revenge on Zion. The question here
was: how did she get up? Was she super human? In the storyboard, Farahilde did
not get up, and the motion comic ended there. This ending was changed due to a
suggestion. The idea behind the animatic’s ending was to show Farahilde’s
persistency and will to break free of the prison. The audience was rooting for
Farahilde. There was a sense of empathy towards her, until the point where she
somehow displayed inhuman abilities to survive the gun shot. So is it more
effective for her to succeed or not? It may be more suitable for Farahilde to
fail. That way it may evoke sadness in the audience; instead of losing the
sense of empathy.
The last
problem pointed out was why did Farahilde decide to save Zion in the first
place? This is easy to resolve. Farahilde simply thought she was the only one
alive in the prison. So when she noticed Zion, her more compassionate side
showed through; and she helped him escape. The motion comic also established
their relationship to be that of a guardian and a dependent. With Farahilde
sheltering Zion, who, at first seemed physically and mentally weaker in
comparison. There is also a need to insert some establishing shots of the other
prison cells, implicating that they are the only ones there.
